My Hot Wax

I am really enjoying school. It’s interesting to me because, at first, I thought the practice of esthetics was a little bit silly. It seemed simple and as if anyone could really do it. It felt like I was just giving people a really fancy face wash! But there is so much to learn and remember, and it’s more than just doing treatments. It’s all about how real you are with your clients and how you form that connection with them. I kind of lose myself when I’m doing a facial. It relaxes me because I can focus on something and I try to give the best treatment possible.

Waxing is a little scarier. You have to be very cautious, and it’s harder to lose yourself in that kind of treatment! It’s not nearly as calming and soothing, but I definitely think clients know that coming in. It’s still a little nerve-racking to me. Waxing smaller areas and the face can be somewhat difficult, whereas larger parts of the body are much easier because there really is no wrong way to do it. My friend, Mary, came in for her eyebrows, and I was so nervous. It’s extremely hot in our wax rooms, which doesn’t help because I sweat in there to begin with since I am nervous! It’s still hard for me to determine what looks good on each person when it comes to brows. Eyebrows are probably the toughest and require the most practice because you are shaping them and not just removing hair. I always doubt myself and I hope that my clients really do like it when I’m finished. I would like to take a more indepth course just on eyebrow waxing alone. I personally never cared very much about my brows, so this was a very new thing for me!

I am very sketched out when in comes to waxing brows, expecially arching them. Is there a good technique anyone would care to share?
