The Nature of the Field

Last night at school was very busy, just like Saturday was. My friend that I work with followed me and I waxed her eyebrows and gave her a VitaMineral facial. She has drier, sun-damaged skin, so I think she benefited a lot from this facial. Afterward, I waxed Sandra’s eyebrows and her underarms. I am still very unsure of myself when I do eyebrows, and I hate that! Sandra said she liked them and that I did a good job and my girlfriend from work likes hers too. Maybe I am doing better than I think. Our teachers and our textbook tell us that the No. 1 most requested spa service is eyebrow arching, so I really want to get good at this! We have also been told that the No. 1 complaint about our school is eyebrow waxing—just that the students aren’t sure of themselves with this service. I want to continue practicing as much as I can to really get my technique down.

I purchased a wax pot and waxing supplies for at-home use, and I always want to practice on family and friends, but I don’t have a lot of free time to do that. And besides that, people are more willing to have facial and body treatments practiced on them then waxing! Waxing is not exactly the most enjoyable service offered on the menu. It’s amazing how much more comfortable I feel with clients now. The first client I ever had was one of the scariest experiences of my life, and now it’s already starting to feel more natural and not AS scary. Sandra and I were talking last night and we both cannot believe how exciting it has become to get so close to someone’s underarm and perform waxing on different body parts that we were once not very comfortable with. You get over any issues you might have had with touching someone else’s body and getting up close and personal with them. It’s just the nature of the field—you have no choice but to get over it.
