What’s the Protocol When it Comes to Stitches and Facials?

I had a new client today and for some reason I wasn’t really nervous at all when I went out in the reception area to get her. When I had her sit in the skin scope, I noticed that she had stitches above her eye, kind of going up and down through her eyebrow. I was a little concerned about doing a facial on her with the stitches in. She told me they were about to come out in a few days and she was just getting a basic facial, so I figured we could try it and I would just avoid that area as I went through the steps. I told her to let me know if I was hurting her at all throughout the facial, but she said I never did, so that was good.
I was very gentle when I was removing the mask from that area, as well. Has anyone ever had a client with stitches on their face? Was it OK for me to give her the basic facial? She would also like to know what kind of treatment would be beneficial to help reduce the scarring after her stitches are removed from that area. She was in a bad car accident years ago as well and has a large scar on her cheek from a surgical procedure that she underwent. Would microderm or a peel be good to diminish the appearance of this scar? She has had peels several times before and likes the results, so I am wondering if I should continue with those. Any suggestions?

Collagen applications followed by products, that have collagen in them to use at home will help the damaged area to heal times quicker.

Svetlana - Thank you for the great advice. I certainly hope this client returns to me for the peel so I can tell her to try a collagen product. Thanks again!

Hi Colleen,
I would put a barrier cream over the stiched area and avoid it during the treatment. Since the scar is so near her eyes it’s best not to do peels or microderm. Get her use a collagen building over the counter product and sun screen to prevent more damage. I heard the MD Skincare antoxidant serum even smooths acne scars.

Sharon - this is great information, thank you! I will suggest these products to her. I used to work at Sephora and I am very familiar with the MD Skincare line. I can tell my client about the serum and I would also like to try it myself!!! Thanks!
